It was very early on in the 2026 recruiting class when Notre Dame football began prioritizing Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park defensive end Rodney Dunham. Even when he didn’t have the high rankings or an expansive offer list, the Irish staff pushed hard. That has led us to this point, a decision date.

After a tremendous return visit to South Bend last weekend, Dunham announced a commitment date. He will be making his commitment on Thursday, April 10th at 4 PM Eastern time. Dunham will be deciding between Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Duke.

With the timing of Dunham’s announcement, as well as all of the predictions coming in, most people can make an educated guess about where the North Carolina star is going to end up. Yes, Notre Dame is in a great spot. They are definitely the team to beat.

People are going to look at the recruiting rankings and get super excited about Notre Dame potentially landing Dunham. Dunham is rated as a five-star player on the On3 Industry ranking, currently sitting as the No. 19 overall player, No. 3 EDGE, and No. 3 player from the state of North Carolina in the 2026 recruiting class. He is ranked similarly by 247Sports, pegged as the No. 14 overall player in the class.

Even outside of Dunham’s final group, he has been pursued by a long list of impressive programs. Some of those prominent offers include Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Auburn among many, many others.

For all those reasons, the potential commitment could send shock waves across college football. North Carolina has become very good to Notre Dame, but stealing a five-star out of that area is monumental. That’s especially true when teams like Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State are on that offer list.

While the defensive tackle recruiting needs to take a step forward under Al Washington, the defensive end recruiting has been quite good. If Dunham ends up signing with Notre Dame, he could be walking into a defensive end room of Bryce Young, Boubacar Traore, and Christopher Burgess. That is impressive.
