We're finally making it to April this week and that means NFL Draft hype is about to go through the roof.
How about we celebrate it with another Dallas Cowboys mock draft? We're going three rounds deep using a simulator and we're taking on the role of Will McClay. The mock below includes a blue-chip prospect, a steal in the second round and a unique athlete in Round 3.
Let's dive in.
Round 1, Pick 12: RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
It's become clear that Jeanty's odds of being there at No. 12 are slim. As we approach the NFL Draft, insiders are often mocking Jeanty to Top 10 teams. Most of the time, that's to the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets. But this mock sheds light on a scenario that could be just what the Cowboys need if they really want to land Jeanty: A falling QB to a QB-needy team.
In this particular simulation, the Cowboys benefit from Shedeur Sanders falling to the Jets, as New York opts for the quarterback that's surprisingly there at No. 7 overall. The Raiders take Abdul Carter, who is dealing with injury questions and his range could be anywhere from No. 2 overall to No. 10.
With that, Jeanty falls to the Cowboys at No. 12. He's probably the safest pick they could make in the first round and a way to immediately boost Brian Schottenheimer's offense. In addition to being ridiculously good with the ball in his hands, he's also a great pass protector and receiver, making him a three-down back with an immediate impact.
Round 2, Pick 44: OL Grey Zabel, North Dakota State
The new Cowboys coaching staff wants to run the ball. With Jeanty picked in the first round, they double down on their efforts by picking Zabel, who thrived as a run blocker at the FCS level.
"Grey Zabel is an intriguing weapon of an offensive lineman," writes A to Z Sports' AJ Schulte in Zabel's scouting report. "He doesn't quite possess the power one would expect of a terrific run-blocker but his technique and footwork help him gain leverage and clear defenders out of rushing lanes. Zabel's technical understanding translates to pass protection as well, with good hand placement and footwork in his passing sets."
Round 3, Pick 76: WR Saivion Williams, TCU
The Cowboys' wide receiver room is in a dire situation and they can't afford to wait until Round 5 to do something about it. Williams might not make an immediate impact but rolling the dice is a must unless they make a big in free agency or via trade.
Williams' versatility has made him a tough prospect to figure out but A to Z Sports draft analyst Ryan Roberts wonders explains why he's a unique talent:
There may not be a more fascinating player in the 2025 class than Williams. He looks like a big-bodied boundary receiver but he moves like a space dynamo. There are even some teams that have Williams graded as a running back despite being nearly 6-4 and 230 pounds. What a unique athlete.
