The Green Bay Packers were historically much more focused on local markets, perceiving Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin and its biggest reasons for success. While that might still be true to some degree, the franchise is slightly changing its approach towards the NFL's global expansion.

During NFL Meetings this week, it was announced that the Packers are now a part of the NFL Global Markets Program, being granted rights in Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Now, there 29 of 32 teams with some level of participation in the program, created in 2021 to build brand awareness and fandom beyond the United Stats, through fan engagement, events, commercial opportunities, and NFL Flag development.

"The expansion of the Global Markets Program in 2025 reflects the NFL's continued focus to grow the game and connect with fans on a global scale," said NFL Executive Vice President, Club Business, Major Events & International Peter O'Reilly. "With more clubs entering the program and existing clubs adding to their global rights, and as the program expands to new markets, we are seeing strong momentum and impact in growing fandom worldwide together."

In addition to the Packers, the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders have been added to the program. Greece and the United Arab Emirates are new countries within the project.

It's not only about the games

The Packers hadn't been a part of the Global Markets, but still played two international games over the past few seasons. In 2022, Green Bay hosted a game against the New York Giants in London, and last year the team opened its season against the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil.

The program doesn't have a direct correlation with international games, therefore the Packers are not more likely to play in Germany, Ireland, and the UK. However, the Packers are expected to play in Dublin in 2025 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Clubs are awarded rights for a five-year term through the program and during this period can pursue activities that are consistent with what they can do in their home domestic market, in their awarded international markets.
