The Chicago Bears will have a difficult time when it comes to deciding on who to select with the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and it's a credit to the roster building that's been done this offseason with Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson.
The Bears have no true need to emphasize on addressing with their first-round pick, which opens up the board to a variety of different scenarios.
Of course, the nine selections before the Bears are on the clock will decide how things go with the 10th overall pick, but overall the team is positioned for anything.
Lately, one of the more compelling and controversial targets linked to the Bears with the 10th overall pick has been Tyler Warren, the top tight end in the draft out of Penn State. NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline noted Monday that the Bears plan to meet with Warren ahead of the draft after Warren opted out of the Penn State Pro Day.
That news sparked wildfire about the potential interest the Bears might have in adding him to Ben Johnson's offense. And Johnson threw even more fuel to that fire on Monday by gushing over Warren's potential during an interview with Adam Hoge of CHGO at the NFL League Meetings.
"He's the definition of a football player. To me, what I will always remember is Dennis Allen speaking up about how much of a headache he would be to go up against a player like that," Johnson explained about scouting Warren. "Not only is he a tenacious football player, he blocks, he runs hard, but the fact you can put him in the backfield and do some wildcat with him, [Allen] felt like that was unique and would give him issues as a defensive coordinator."
That certainly adds a new wrinkle into where the team might be leaning with the first-round pick. Warren playing in Ben Johnson's offense would be incredible mixing him around in various formations and it wouldn't have much of an impact on Cole Kmet.
Ben Johnson ran the most 12 personnel looks in the league during the 2024 season as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator. He's the perfect mind to implement both tight ends into the gameplan each week at a high level.
Earlier before getting into Warren, Johnson mentioned how the Lions opted to draft running back Jahmyr Gibbs 12th overall in 2023 because Gibbs was "a game changer, a player that could strike fear into the opposing defense."
It seems like Tyler Warren could be that kind of player in the 2025 NFL Draft that Ben Johnson and other members in the building have their eyes on with less than a month until the draft kicks off.
