The first steps towards the Colts losing a multi-year starter is in the works but the team has been preparing for it

This offseason has been a very different approach, as the team has let their top in-house free agents sign elsewhere. And now Blackmon may be the next one to do so, with him reportedly taking a visit with the Carolina Panthers.
Colts starting safety and former draft pick Julian Blackmon set to visit the Panthers

The Colts drafted Blackmon in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has spent the last five years in Indianapolis and appeared in 66 games, recording 10 interceptions, 21 pass deflections, and 300 total tackles.
He has played both FS and SS for the Colts during his time with the team. He has had his best two seasons with the team over the past two years, with seven interceptions and 174 total tackles in that span. The area where Blackmon has struggled, though, is injuries. He has suffered multiple different injuries over the years, which have affected his overall market in free agency.
Blackmon took free agency visits last year before ultimately landing back with the Colts on a one-year deal. This time around, though, it seems very unlikely that he will return to the Colts. The team signed former Minnesota Vikings safety Cam Bynum to a large contract this offseason and plans for him to be their starter at FS. So, if Blackmon were brought back, he likely wouldn't be returning to his starting job in 2024, so going elsewhere and remaining a starter is probably the best thing for him and his career.

The team's biggest need remaining on that side of the ball is a linebacker, and the best fit in the class to fill that […]
