The late stages of free agency are fully underway. The New Orleans Saints just got involved by adding a potential starter on offense that they desperately needed for Kellen Moore's team.

Saints sign offensive lineman Dillon Radunz

According to the Saints, they have signed free agent offensive lineman Dillon Radunz to a one-year deal. He is a former second-round pick by the Tennessee Titans.

In four years with Tennessee, the Becker, Minn. native has appeared in 54 games with 31 starts, seeing time at both guard spots and both tackle positions. In 2024, he opened all 15 contests he appeared in at right guard. — New Orleans Saints

I discussed the likelihood of the Saints adding a potential starter at left guard in free agency before the NFL Draft this morning, actually. All signs indicated that they were looking around that part of the market at this point of FA.

They cannot rely on Nick Saldiveri as their top option at LG, considering his lack of experience and multiple injuries so far in his pro career. Their only interior offensive line addition is Will Clapp, and he's been a career backup. The Saints met with OG Dillon Radunz last week.

I do think that adding another veteran guard will happen for New Orleans. It is simply too much of a need to place that sort of pressure on themselves early in the draft.

This move makes all of the sense in the world. Radunz has experienced across the interior at the college and pro level. His play has been inconsistent, but maybe Kellen Moore and his staff can unlock the best of him.

Radunz immediately jumps to the top of the depth chart for New Orleans at LG, with a potential rookie and Nick Saldiveri competing with him for the starting role. That outcome feels rather likely for New Orleans at this point.

Saints bring back DB Ugo Amadi

As well as the offensive line addition, the Saints have added a veteran in their secondary as well. Ugo Amadi is back on a one-year deal to bolster the experience and depth in the Saints' secondary.

Amadi has tons of pro experience at both cornerback and safety. I would expect him to compete for a backup job in the slot for New Orleans' defense under new DC Brandon Staley. In six seasons in the NFL, Amadi has appeared in 78 games, totaling 186 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one interception, and 22 pass breakups.

This will be his third season with New Orleans if he makes the roster.

Like the Isaac Yiadom reunion, this one won't blow the doors off of the defense for the Saints, but they simply needed more capable bodies as they enter draft season. We will see if Amadi can carve out a roster spot during camp and the preseason.

Both of these additions were necessary for the Saints. Let's see if they have any more moves in mind over the next month of the offseason.
