Retirement is always a scary discussion for top players in their sport. For th eLos Angeles Rams, one of their fan favorite talents may consider hanging up his cleats a lot sooner than some fans would hope.

Puka Nacua discusses early retirement

The star wideout for the Rams recently discussed retirement. He actually pinpointed when he wants to retire from football. It is a lot sooner than Rams fans would probably like, too.

Nacua says that he wants to retire at the age of 30, according to USA Today. The wide receiver is 23 years old, set to turn 24 in May.

Nacua, who turns 24 in May, already knows when he wants to retire from football. During an interview on the “Join The Lobby” podcast, Nacua revealed he wants to call it a career at the age of 30. That would give him six or seven more years in the NFL before hanging up his cleats. — USA TODAY

We've seen some other players do this in recent years, but this projection is still quite bold from the wideout.

Normally, we see players play out their late 20's and push off retirement.

Nacua does not plan to take that route. Rather, he wants to have this goal ahead of him to hang up the cleats at a younger age than most. He discussed injuries, family plans, and the comparison to Aaron Donald.

“I know I want to retire at the age of 30. I'm 23 right now, I'm going into Year 3 – it wouldn’t even be 10 years. It’d be maybe seven or eight. I think of Aaron Donald, to go out at the top, I think it would be super cool. But also, I want to have a big family. I want to have at least a starting five. I came from a big family so I need five boys, for sure. But also, like, I want to be able to be a part of their lives and be as active as I can with them. The injuries are something you can’t control (as) part of the game, so you never know. Hopefully, the rest of the career can go healthy, but you have shoulder surgery, you have knee surgery, you have ankle…” — Nacua via USA TODAY

Aaron Donald's influence

If you remember, Aaron Donald surprised a lot of folks around the NFL and the Rams fan base when he retired in March of 2024. He was only 32 years old. Accordingly, there is a bit of a precedent of this thought process from Nacua even inside the Rams building over the past couple of years.

Donald cited no longer having the desire or passion to continue the persistent training as reasons for calling it a career so early on. He's considered a legend on the defensive side of the football.

For Nacua, he would love to prove himself as one of the best receivers of this generation over the next half of a decade or so.
