The NFL Draft for the Minnesota Vikings is going to be very interesting. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah hasn't had a lot of success in the draft over his first three years, but the majority of that stems from the 2022 NFL Draft.
It's evident that Adofo-Mensah has changed his process over the last two drafts. It started by using picks to acquire tight T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions. Pair that with the shift in prioritizing certain traits and thresholds and the Vikings have had more success over the last two NFL Drafts.
Vikings get top 10 talent Shavon Revel Jr. in latest mock draft
Secondary is the one need that is viewed widely as crucial for the Vikings. Safety is the more popular choice, but cornerback is a need when it comes to upside. Byron Murphy Jr. is a very good player, but opposite of him is currently a mystery.
NBC Sports' Connor Rogers released a three-round mock draft and gave the Vikings just that in East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
If not for a torn ACL in September, I thought Revel was on a trajectory to be a top 15 pick. He’s a premium athlete with size, length, and ball skills. He also plays with a different edge against the run than a lot of the other corners in this class.
Selecting Revel in the first round fits what Adofo-Mensah has been trying to do over the last few years: buy low on an injured player with high upside. He's an excellent player with size, length, and great movement skills. It could be a huge win for the Vikings to make the move.
The other pick in the three-round mock draft is intriguing as well in Indiana defensive tackle C.J. West.
West is a great story as a Kent State transfer who played a huge role for that feisty Indiana defense this season. He’s built like a T-Rex and battles in the trenches as hard as anyone with athleticism to disrupt the backfield, but also brute force with his hands.
Finding a young player to develop behind Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave should be a priority and they accomplished that here.
This would be a really good first two days of the NFL Draft for the Vikings.
