Holding onto a recruit is harder than it has ever been in today’s world of college football. When recruits commit to a school early, holding on until signing day can be a real struggle.
If Ohio State can get five-star WR commit Chris Henry Jr. to the finish line, they will have held onto his commitment for well over two full years.
Since he committed in July of 2023, the Buckeyes have had to hold off other programs. That isn’t stopping anytime soon either, as Henry recently took another visit to Oregon, who is the biggest threat to flip the elite wideout.
Henry Jr. has been out in California at Mater Dei for over a year and that has given programs like Oregon and USC easier access. Following another visit with the Ducks — Henry admitted what we all knew — Oregon is coming after him hard.
“The amazing atmosphere they have up there, they have an amazing coaching staff, they’re recruiting me really hard,” Henry said of Oregon after the visit, via On3. “They’re making it known that it’s not gonna be easy for me to leave west.”
Henry is set to be back in Columbus on April 5 for an unofficial visit and the Buckeyes have the last official visit marked on June 20. The star recruit is the No. 9 recruit in the country and the No. 2 wide receiver, according to 247 Sports Composite.
Ohio State has six commitments and is the No. 16 class in the country, per 247 Sports. The commitment of OT Sam Greer on Tuesday gave the Buckeyes their fifth commitment on the offensive side of the football.
The Buckeyes going from Jeremiah Smith to Henry Jr. would be the most ideal scenario. Holding onto the 6-foot-5, 205-pound wideout is the biggest must for the Buckeyes in this class. With Brian Hartline leading the recruitment, there is reason for optimism.
