Top NFL Draft insider wants the Dallas Cowboys to pull off blockbuster move that Jerry Jones would've considered in the 1990s

It's always hilarious to me when NFL media members say Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loves to make a splash. The truth is, he doesn't. Not anymore.
Netflix is releasing a documentary about the Hall of Fame owner titled "The Gambler." That moniker might've worked perfectly in the 1990s but in 2025, he's one of the most risk-averse general managers in the NFL.
The Cowboys don't spend much cash in free agency. Instead, it's all about drafting and developing players, many of them leave for other teams when their rookie deals are up. Sure, the Cowboys pay their stars (very late) but other than that, it's a team that doesn't gamble because the bottom line has become the apparent priority for the organization.
It's something fans and local media members have gotten used to it. So when top NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah posted his wish for Jones to pull off a blockbuster, he could've have phrased it better.
"I miss the days when the Cowboys were aggressive & fun," Jeremiah posted on X on Tuesday. "Spice it up. Trade up for Travis Hunter."
Listen, the Cowboys have plenty of roster holes and moving up for Hunter (a projected Top 5 pick) would likely cost too much for it to even make sense. I get that and I'm not even arguing for them to make such a move.
But pulling off such a blockbuster move would be much more like the dynasty days. After all, Hunter is somewhat of a modern Deion Sanders that multiple NFL teams are considering playing on offense and defense like he did in Colorado.
To be honest, I'd rather see them do that than see them handle roster building like they have in recent years. Sure, they've had winning records for the most part but it's always the lack of free agency additions that bites them in the rear-end as soon as they play win-or-go-home football.
Can you imagine the hype around Hunter if the Cowboys treated him as a two-way player? Boom. One pick, two major roster needs solved. If you can dream about it, good. Because it's not happening, trust me.
If anything, gear up for a trade down to net more draft picks. Remember, Jerry the gambler is no more. But if it's draft picks you're talking about, he's got your attention.
