The Las Vegas Raiders have been adding players during free agency, retaining others, and letting some go. So, the roster and depth chart for 2025 under former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will look vastly different.
And, you have to factor in new general manager John Spytek, too, who was the assistant general manager with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and helped build them a Super Bowl-winning team. He has his hands all over this roster, and it's very noticeable. The players they have decided not to bring back were likely because he and Carroll didn't see the team getting better with that player, or felt they could cut their losses.
Now there is a new player they have let go. Well, it hasn't been announced by anyone, the media, or PR, but it's clear based on an Instagram story.
D.J. Turner posted on his IG story a message that said "It's been real LV," with the backdrop being the Las Vegas skyline as he was driving on the interstate. And, we can infer that means that maybe he has moved on, not that the Raiders have. But who knows?
DJ Turner went undrafted in 2021 but signed with the Raiders as a free agent in 2021.
In his first year with the Raiders in 2021, Turner stayed on the practice squad all season. He made the active roster in 2022, playing nine games, mostly on special teams. He ran the ball four times for 26 yards but didn’t catch a pass, and he returned four kickoffs for 78 yards and two punts for three yards. Injuries led to him being waived and re-signed a few times, ending the year back on the practice squad before getting a future contract in January 2023.
In 2023, Turner got hurt during training camp, landed on injured reserve, and was cut with a settlement. He rejoined the practice squad in October 2023. His big year came in 2024, playing 12 games and catching 16 passes for 158 yards, including his first touchdown on October 27, 2024, against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also scored a rushing touchdown earlier that season against the Cleveland Browns.
Hopefully, wherever he goes next, he's successful.

The Raiders need to get this right regardless.
