For the third time in the last three offseasons, former Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne is searching for a new home. It was reported that Pyne has entered the Transfer Portal this week. He has one year of eligibility remaining after spending the 2024 season with the Missouri Tigers.
Pyne was originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class for the Fighting Irish. He opted for Notre Dame over offers from Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miami, Penn State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Auburn, South Carolina, Missouri, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, UNC, Arizona, Boston College, and Baylor among others.
Despite Pyne being a really small quarterback at around 5-11 and 200 pounds, he did do some nice things for Notre Dame in his three seasons. Pyne threw for 2,257 yards and 24 touchdowns and threw just six interceptions, while completing over 63 percent of his passes. He also added another two touchdowns on the ground, and led the Irish to an 8-2 record as a starter in 2022.
Pyne decided to transfer to Arizona State for the 2023 season. He wasn’t able to make much of an impact, throwing for just 273 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Pyne actually ended up transferring back to Notre Dame last winter to finish up his degree with the program.
After Pyne graduated, he was once again on the move. The Connecticut native made a surprising transfer to Missouri. It was an odd move considering that they were returning starting quarterback Brady Cook. Pyne was relegated to a backup role, and managed to throw for just 391 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.
After that 2024 season, Pyne has once again decided to find a new home. He has just one season of eligibility remaining, and there is no telling what the demand for Pyne will be. On the positive, at least Pyne is very well-traveled, and surely has gained some great connections.
