The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in the QB market for months, and all signs point to a continuation of that process.

Aaron Rodgers, the NFL Draft, maybe even another veteran signing, they have options at both starter and depth positions.

It seems like one of those options was former New England Patriots QB Joe Milton, who decided to join the Dallas Cowboys instead….

Patriots send Joe Milton to Cowboys despite better trade offers

My understanding is since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the Raiders, Eagles, Giants, Steelers and the Cowboys. The Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.

Let's be clear, Joe Milton is not, or at least not at this time, a starting quarterback in the NFL. He has a huge arm, can do a standing backflip and is one of the more freakishly athletic people at the position, but he doesn't have pure QB DNA. Not yet, anyway.

There is a lack of processing, instincts, and refinement to his game. He's all fastball, all the time. That makes for exciting plays, similar to the ones he produced in his lone game of the 2024 season, but it doesn't make him a servicable starter.

And look, is Milton better, or does he have a higher ceiling than many of the names that will be available to the Steelers on day three of this month's draft? Maybe. But not if names like Quinn Ewers, Will Howard, and Tyler Shough are still there.

So for Pittsburgh, maybe they were the team that offered more for Milton. But that would generate some concern, in my opinion. If they seriously considered trading for Joe Milton for anything more than a sixth or seventh-round pick, you might need to question their process.

But unless someone spills the beans on the mystery team, we will likely never know.
