Where there is smoke, there is often fire in the NFL.
And recently, as it pertains to the Pittsburgh Steelers, there has been a lot of smoke surrounding a potential blockbuster QB trade.
And during his media session at the NFL Combine, Steelers general manager Omar Khan would neither confirm nor deny recent reports…
Omar Khan leaving all options on the table at QB
"I'll say, like I said, all options are on the table. You know, we don't have one of our guys under contract, so I owe it to everyone to, you know, keep all options on the table. I'm not gonna say that that's accurate or not, you know, but all options are onn the table," said Khan of the Matthew Stafford trade report.
The comments and questions stem from a report that Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated put out on Monday, stating that the Steelers, among other teams have been active in trade conversations with the Los Angeles Rams:
“The teams you’d suspect would have their hat in the ring have, indeed, thrown their hats in the ring, said NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. "The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders and others have shown interest.”
For the Steelers, getting back into the mix of Super Bowl contention is all that matters. No matter which way you shape it, Khan and the rest of the staff know that repeating the end of 2024 is unacceptable.
"I'll just touch on last year real quick. Obviously, it was disappointing, the way we ended was unacceptable," said Khan. "We know we have to be better and people expect better. We expect better, and that can't happen again. And, you know, I'm just as disappointed as everyone else and, you know, I can tell you we're working hard to fix that and make sure it doesn't happen again."
So whether it's the return of Justin Fields or Russell Wilson, a veteran free agent signing, a draft pick, or a big-time trade, Steelers fans won't care as long as it results in posteseason success.
