One of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' biggest questions of the offseason has basically been answered thanks to a simple update.

Per FOX Sports' Greg Auman, the Bucs and Chris Godwin agreed to move the void date of the three-year, $60 million deal he signed back in 2022 from February 17, 2025 to March 12, which is the first day of the new league year. What that likely means is the Bucs, along with Godwin, are trying to work out a new deal and they want to buy more time before his $18.852 million dead cap hit set in.

Now, the two sides have an extra three weeks to work things out and honestly, this all but guarantees that Godwin is back with the Bucs for the 2025 season, at minimum. For starters, well-respected insiders like Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds, Sports Illustrated's J.C. Allen, and others have maintained the idea that Godwin will remain a Buccaneer, but the franchise's and community's respect for him is undeniable, as well. The fact that both parties pushed this deadline back is a major sign that they went to work something out and when considering both parties' relationship and the proficiency of the Bucs front office, there is little doubt something won't get done.

Also, if the void date of February 17 held up, it would've added more pressure on the Bucs' side of things due to the fact that a third franchise tag is impossible even if it buys more time to work out a deal. Another factor is Godwin's market, which would have been solid, at minimum. Even if the timeline regarding the recovery from his season-ending injury plays a big role in how things turn out.

Either way, this is a great development, much like the Byron Murphy-Minnesota Vikings update from earlier in the day. As a former doubter, I now believe it hard to see Godwin playing anywhere else but in Tampa Bay in 2025, at minimum.
