Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown was a hot name in the general manager hiring cycle, but he'll officially be staying in Cincinnati for at least another season.

Brown interviewed to become the next GM of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Jags did not name him as one of five finalists for the job Saturday evening.

Brown was left out of a quintet consisting of Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham, Los Angeles Rams director of scouting strategy James Gladstone, Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan, Jacksonville's interim general manager Ethan Waugh, and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams.

Jacksonville's GM search has been a bit unconventional. The team officially hired head coach Liam Coen back on January 24 two days after parting ways with GM Trent Baalke. The decision to fire Baalke ultimately got Coen back in the mix as he spurned the Buccaneers following an agreement to make him the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the league. Coen was then tasked with helping the club search for a GM, a perk that hadn't been given to a first-time HC since the 49ers gave it to Kyle Shanahan back in 2017.

Brown isn't a finalist in Duval County, but he nearly won the job for the New York Jets GM after interviewing with them twice. He lost out to former Denver Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey.

Brown, who's been in Cincinnati since he was hired as a scout in 2021, has become well renowned in league circles and has garnered interest in multiple GM opportunities. He's been an exec for the Bengals since 2022, but also had a personnel role for the Philadelphia Eagles leading up to the franchise's first Super Bowl ring nearly 10 years ago. The New England Patriots wanted to interview him last year, but he turned that offer down.

The Bengals would've received two third-round compensatory picks in the next two NFL Drafts if Brown had been hired elsewhere, but they'll happily keep one of their well-respected members on staff for director of player personnel Duke Tobin.
