NFL insider sees Justin Fields as Steelers QB in 2025 but under one condition that makes plenty of sense
The Pittsburgh Steelers don't have a clear answer as to who will be their starting QB in 2025. All options are seemingly on the table, including trading for a Super Bowl champion, signing a first-ballot Hall of Famer, or drafting a rookie. Justin Fields back to Pittsburgh…As starter only
What's next: The five-game losing streak to end the 2024 campaign should prompt changes for a franchise that leans conservative. Deciding whether to sign Russell Wilson, Justin Fields or an alternative at quarterback should come into focus over the next month. My sense is that Fields and Pittsburgh are both open to a new deal as long as Fields gets a shot to be the full-time starter. After that, Pittsburgh badly needs to reload at the skill positions. Last year's receiver group was inadequate. A decision looms on free agent Najee Harris' future. Pittsburgh's defense was uneven against the run, calling for reinforcements. And, oh yeah, T.J. Watt is a 2026 free agent.

Fowler points out just about everything the Steelers have on their plate this offseason, but it starts and ends with who is under center in 2025.
Justin Fields is the leader for a few reasons.
For one, he has a familiarity and favor from OC Arthur Smith, the latter of which can't be said for Russell Wilson. On top of that, other than drafting a QB, Fields is the youngest option, with the most growth potential and ability to become the team's franchise QB.
So assurance that he not only starts the season in pole position but maintains it throughout should be atop his list. After being benched despite a 4-2 start, many were calling for Fields to be re-inserted to the starting lineup amidst what ended up being a five-game losing streak for the Steelers.
But assurances only go so far, so don't be surprised if Fields, who will have a strong market, signs elsewhere in a few weeks.
