The writing is on the wall: the Cleveland Browns won’t be bringing Nick Chubb back. On Friday, general manager Andrew Berry essentially confirmed it.
When the Browns drafted two running backs a couple of weeks ago, it signaled what was coming. Cleveland selected Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins in the second round, then doubled down by picking up Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson. They came away from the draft with two talented backs who both have the potential to become starters.
Rookie minicamp began on Friday, giving the newcomers their first opportunity to take the field.
Dylan Sampson is eager to work alongside Quinshon Judkins.
“It’s been good. We’re going to be able to push each other, as well as the older guys in the room,” Sampson said Friday. “We’ll learn a lot from each other, and I’m just ready to keep learning ball. Me and Quinshon — I can tell we’ll have a good relationship and see eye to eye on a lot of things.”
Sampson is already showing the kind of unselfishness teams value, especially as the Browns are expected to lean heavily on both backs in 2025. He was the bell-cow back for the Volunteers in 2024, leading the SEC with 1,491 rushing yards.
The Browns made a clear choice to get younger at the position following several strong seasons from Chubb. Both Sampson and Judkins have the potential to be among the best running backs from what was a deep draft class.
An underlying theme in Cleveland’s 2025 draft class is character — and Sampson clearly fits that mold.
Browns QB Dillon Gabriel is already impressing for Cleveland and it has a lot to do with Shedeur Sanders
