Whether you're sick and tired of hearing about it for almost the entirety of Friday's draft broadcast, Shedeur Sanders' fall to Day 3 has become the biggest story of the 2025 NFL Draft.
So much so that even Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about it on Friday night during the team's press conference following the third round. A known friend of Deion Sanders—NFL Hall of Famer, Colorado head coach and Shedeur's father—Jones didn't hesitate to show his support for the young quarterback.
"First of all, I don't want to make an evaluation," Jones said. "We thought and evaluated (Shedeur) extremely high in this draft. Now, obviously we have (Dak Prescott) at the highest paid player in the league right there, but we thought that."
Whether or not Jones' words match what the Cowboys' draft board truly says, we may never know. But the general manager went on to describe his experience with the Sanders family, specifically addressing the concerns about Shedeur's character.
"I have an edge. I know what winners, of what winner he's got in his bloodline. I do know that. Consequently, with my first hand knowledge of my relationships over the years with Deion, and I know that I've watched two or three ball games with his son. And so with my knowledge, I know where the character is there. Boy, it is great character. It is an unbelievable, competitive, winning character for sports."
Jones suggested multiple scouts visited with him about Sanders' character.
Being painfully honest here, Jones' comments about Shedeur centered almost entirely on the fact that he's got a relationship with Deion. Like it or not, that's not how proper quarterback evaluation works. While I don't know if Sanders will be a good NFL quarterback or not, all I'm saying is take Jerry's quotes with a grain of salt.
As for the Cowboys picking Sanders, if it's true they had an "extremely high" evaluation of him, why not in the fifth round? But the team is obviously all in on Dak and even got a backup in Joe Milton before the Draft.
