The Chicago Bears haven't been as active on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft with multiple solid prospects coming off the board right before their selections.

As a result, the Bears have been maneuvering around the board, a common trend by general manager Ryan Poles on Day 3.

The most recent track back with the Los Angeles Rams is perhaps the most interesting move made by the front office. In the trade, the Bears sent pick No. 148 to the Rams in exchange for pick No. 195 and the Rams 2026 fourth-round pick. Los Angeles moved up to select Ohio State defensive tackle Ty Hamilton.

Getting that future fourth is huge for more reasons than one. Obviously the netting any future pick at a higher round is good value if you aren't pleased with how the board looks. On top of that, the Bears were without a fourth in 2026 after trading to the Kansas City Chiefs a few months back for left guard Joe Thuney.

Thuney, the two-time All-Pro and four-time Super Bowl Champion, was a massive addition to the offensive front that stunned the league. He's going to bring immediate leadership to the Bears offensive front and it came at a bargain no one expected.

And by getting the Rams' 2026 fourth in a simple trade back, the trade for Thuney essentially evens out in terms of what the Bears had to give up to trade for him.

The only thing that can make trade for Thuney look even better is if the Bears can lock him up beyond the 2025 season. With the deal inherited by the Bears, Thuney only has one-year remaining, but there's mutual interest in getting something done.

"That’s definitely, I would say, one of the priorities moving forward," general manager Ryan Poles said about a possible Thuney extension.

“I kind of let my agent handle all that,” Thuney said. “I just try and focus on the game and football, just getting ready for the season. That’s really what I’m focused on. I’m grateful to be here, and I’m pumped to play. I’ll let the business side of it handle itself. Excited to get on the field with the guys in OTAs and I’m excited to start working.”
