The NFL Schedule release will reveal the Indianapolis Colts and the rest of the league's full 2025 schedule later today.

We already know that the Colts are traveling to Germany for Week 10, and now sources confirm to A to Z Sports that the Colts are scheduled to take on the Miami Dolphins at home to kick off the season in Week 1.

Colts are scheduled to play the Dolphins Week 1 of the 2025 season

The Colts and Dolphins face off at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, September 7, at 1:00 PM est. The Dolphins lead the all-time series between the two teams with a 48-29 record. The Colts have dominated the series as of late, though, with the team winning eight of the last ten matchups dating back to 2002.

The most recent matchup came last year in Week 7, where the Colts won a snoozefest 16-10 on a day the Dolphins played without starter Tua Tagovailoa. Fun fact: if he is able to play in this game, this will be Tagovailo's first time playing the Colts. As you read above, he missed last year's matchup, and Jacoby Brissett was the starter in 2021 when the two teams played.

The Colts spent big money to improve their secondary this offseason after a rough season in 2024. They brought in CB Charvarius Ward and safety Cam Bynum, and the NFL has decided to test them right out of the gate in 2025. The Colts will have the tough task of stopping the Dolphins' dynamic WR duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in Week 1.

Hill has been one of the best receivers in the NFL for some time now, and Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and Ward have said the plan is for him to travel with the opposing team's top receivers. This will be quite the opening challenge for Ward, but thankfully, the team brought in Bynum, who should be able to help make Hill work for every yard he gains in Week 1. If the Colts can limit Hill and Waddle's impact in this game, the outlook for their new look secondary is going to go through the roof for the remainder of the 2025 season. A tall task, but a big opportunity for the Colts in Week 1.
