The NFL will release the Detroit Lions' schedule on Wednesday night. Until then, info on games has been trickling in a little bit at a time. For example, we know that the Lions will play the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day.

For a minute, it seemed like the Lions and Vikings might double up with the Vikings and play on Thanksgiving as well. That was the initial report from Fox's NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

While it sucks from a professional point of view to work on a holiday, man it was a cool idea to have the two teams that were neck and neck all year last year for the NFC North title get these two big holiday games to duel it out again.

For once, it looked like the NFL schedule makers had made a couple of bangers for the Holiday season instead of force-feeding the Cowboys to everyone. But that's not the case.

At the end of the day, it was just a mistake by Schultz. He got Christmas and Thanksgiving confused. Hard to blame the guy after the Lions have played on Thanksgiving Day for almost 100 years.

We now know the Lions will play the Packers on Thanksgiving. That's fine. It's another NFC North battle, but the league had a chance to do something special.

To be fair, this is a reporter's mix-up, and the league may never have had this idea on the table. But maybe the league could learn from Schultz's mistake and think about pairing up some rivals on both holidays. It just makes those games way more intriguing.

Maybe the NFL will look to do that. It would be cool. Almost as cool as not making players play on Christmas day would be.
