The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to reestablish their run game on the offensive side of the ball. The offense was terrible last year, for many reasons, but somehow the run game wasn't as bad as you would think.

Sure, you could still put the run game in that "bad" category, but factoring in the injuries they dealt with, along with the run scheme not matching their player's best traits, somehow they managed to put together a few good games on the ground, even against the SEC teams they played.

The passing game was awful, as it felt like there was almost never a pass completed longer than 10 air yards. So, they also relied on the run game a lot, too. They will look to balance it all out under new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.

However, they will be doing it without a familiar face. Another running back entered the transfer portal, and now his prediction for what team he will join is out.

Gavin Sawchuk predicted to join Florida State Seminoles

Gavin Sawchuk, a redshirt junior running back, entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 25, 2025. He was a four-star recruit from Littleton, Colorado, who led OU in 2023 with 744 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 6.2 yards per carry, and had five straight 100-yard games. He came on at the end of the year and really established himself as a potential star in the making.

But, it never materizlized into anything in Crimson and Cream, as he was limited to 128 yards and one touchdown, this past year, and he also missed games and saw less playing time. Over three seasons, he totaled 977 yards and 11 touchdowns, including a 100-yard game in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl against Florida State.

In 2024, Oklahoma’s deep running back group, including Jovantae Barnes, Taylor Tatum, and Xavier Robinson at the end of the year, saw him lose his spot in the rotation. Despite early optimism, he ranked seventh in team rushing yards, leading to his transfer decision. On May 2, 2025, he visited Florida State, where he’s projected to join, with two years of eligibility left due to a 2022 redshirt.

The Seminoles are somewhat of a rival from a different conference, as the Sooners have had some big battles against them, whether it's championship games or bowl games.
