The Indianapolis Colts made a handful of big moves to upgrade their roster and coaching staff this offseason. As a result, a pair of former Colts day two draft picks are likely looking over their shoulder heading into training camp.
With the team hiring Lou Anarumo to be their new defensive coordinator, a high-profile free agency signing, and their decision to draft TE Tyler Warren in the first round, they've put TE Jelani Woods and Juju Brents' roster spots in serious jeopardy.
The Colts' offseason moves put Jelani Woods and Juju Brents on notice that their jobs aren't safe ahead of training camp

The Colts drafted Jelani Woods in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Due to his stellar size and superhuman athleticism, many believed he had the highest ceiling of any TE in that draft class. And he's had a few flashes of what he can be, but injuries and inconsistencies have derailed his chances of becoming a stable part of the Colts' offense.
He's hardly been on the field since the Colts hired Shane Steichen and his offensive coaching staff. And he has fallen further and further down the team's expected depth chart as a result. Last year, before being placed on the IR, many were already projecting that he wouldn't make the team's 53-man roster. Now they've brought in Tyler Warren, who they don't have to worry about needing to reach an improbable ceiling to produce for them. After all, he was viewed as one of the safest prospects from the 2025 NFL Draft class. Now, Woods enters training camp in a battle to be the team's fourth TE with the likes of Will Mallory and Drew Ogletree instead of the team's future starter he was drafted to become.

The Colts drafted Indianapois native Juju Brents in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Brents was viewed as a potential long-term starter for the Colts, and he took over that role pretty much instantly. Sadly, he's battled multiple injuries, which have led him to only appear in 11 games in his first two NFL seasons.
The first time Brents' future with the team began to be doubted was when the Colts hired Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator. Anarumo's scheme calls for more diversity in coverage calls and will lead to more man-press coverages being utilized. Because of this, Anarumo typically prefers his CBs to possess more speed than Brents has. Brents was a great fit in Gus Bradley's defense, but many, including myself, are skeptical that he would be effective in Anarumo's scheme.
To make things worse for Brents, the Colts signed a high-profile free agent CB in Charvarius Ward, and used their third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on CB Justin Walley. Brents seemingly continues to fall further and further down the depth chart, and I think it's fair to wonder if he will end up being a Colt by the time the team's 53-man roster is announced. I could see him being a player the Colts look to trade near cut-down day, and I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the team prefers others in the room to the point that they would cut him if he struggles to stand out in training camp.
The Colts had a unique player they coveted stolen from them unexpectedly by an AFC team that made the playoffs last season
The Indianapolis Colts added multiple talented players in the 2025 NFL Draft, and shortly after the seventh and final round ended, they added a solid group of undrafted players. However, one player the team agreed to an UDFA contract with was stolen from them at the last minute due to an AFC playoff team from […]
The Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 undrafted rookie who has the best chance of earning a spot on the team’s 53-man roster this year
Since finalizing their 2025 NFL Draft class, the Colts have been hard at work adding talent from the undrafted free agency market. There are a couple of intriguing UDFA's that the Colts are bringing into their rookie minicamp and training camp this summer. After looking at their list, one UDFA stands out from the rest as […]
