Ryan Day finally captured the ultimate goal at Ohio State this past season by winning it all.

The Buckeyes looked dead in the water after their loss to Michigan, but they rebounded with a historic College Football Playoff run. Ohio State went on to beat Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame.

Recently, Josh Pate asked Day how it felt to finally win it all, and Day responded in a way that revealed who he truly is.

“I think if your goal is just to win a National Championship, you’re setting yourself up for trouble,” Day said. “To me, my goal has always been to help these young men reach their dreams and goals. Winning championships just allows us to continue to do that.”

“If you don’t win championships at Ohio State, they’re going to find a new coach. That’s just the way of the world.”

The goals are the same every year at Ohio State: beat Michigan and compete for a College Football Playoff title. Now that there are 12 teams in the playoff, the path is tougher, but the expectation remains the same.

Day is 70–10 as the head coach at Ohio State and has won two Big Ten titles in six seasons leading the program in Columbus. After taking over for Urban Meyer, Day has been everything that Ohio State fans could have hoped for all in all.

Ohio State just produced 14 NFL draft picks, which speaks to the strong development under Day and his staff. That number was just one under the record number of 15 by Georgia in 2022. Getting over the hump of consistently beating Michigan is the next hurdle for the current staff, but things are in a great place in Columbus.
