For the first time in a very long time, there's a quarterback controversy going on with the Detroit Lions. It's not for the starter job, but it's still a controversy because it's more fun to call it that.

Last year Hendon Hooker and Nate Sudfeld battled it out for the backup job and Hooker won. This year its not going to be as easy for Hooker. Sudfeld was really bad, but Kyle Allen has shown to be a lot better backup during his time in the league, and he was also a starting quarterback for a short period of time.

We don't know who is going to win this battle or if the Lions will choose to go with three guys this year, but one thing that we do find interesting is that both guys have been working with the same quarterback guru this offseason.

Both guys have been working with QB Summit this offseason. QB Summit is run by former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer. He works with different NFL and college quarterbacks on techniques, footwork, throwing, and mentality every year. Allen was just there last week and Hooker was there earlier in the month.

We're going to see very soon how much this time with the guru's pay off. For Hooker, this is the arguably the biggest year of his entire career. If he can go out and show that he's ready to play in this league, he can nail down that backup spot for the long term. If he continues to have struggles, then who knows what will happen?

The biggest thing you have to hope Hooker walked out better at is timing. Last year, he struggled with that the most in camp. There were times when he'd hold onto the ball too long and take a sack, or he would get rid of it too fast and throw an interception. We'll see if he found the happy medium.
