Ohio State is going back to the National Championship for the second time under Ryan Day thanks to their third straight win in the College Football Playoff.
The Buckeyes defeated Texas in the Cotton Bowl by a score of 28-14 on Friday night. Ohio State got a 75-yard catch and run touchdown from TreVeyon Henderson just before halftime to give the Buckeyes a 14-7 lead going into the break. From there, the defenses battled it out for most of the second half. Jack Sawyer’s strip sack and score was the nail in the coffin.
Next up for the Buckeyes is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who is coming off a close win over Penn State. One star player for Notre Dame didn’t shy away from the fact that he wanted to play Ohio State, even before the Cotton Bowl started.
"We want to play Ohio State. We lost to them last year in a game we should have won," Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love said to Andy Staples of On3. "I feel like Ohio State is better than Texas. I want to play the best and win."
Ohio State beat Notre Dame 17-14 last year and Love carried the ball eight times for 57 yards in that game as a true freshman. Now, Love has blossomed into one of the best running backs in the country.
Love has 1,121 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns this season and is the top playmaker for Notre Dame’s offense. The very first thing the Fighting Irish want to do is get the ball rolling on the ground with Love.
Ohio State has a top-five rushing defense this season and they will need it again in the National Championship to finish the job. Love sounds like a player that is confident going into the matchup even a week ahead of the game.
