He probably knew it was coming, but Dallas Cowboys right guard Brock Hoffman received some news he didn't want to hear in his first weekend off following the end of the regular season.

Hoffman is being fined $5,472 following an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in Week 18's showdown against the Washington Commanders.

The play in question was a Cowboys' field goal in which Hoffman appeared to be grabbing Commanders DT Daron Payne's belly after the kick. Payne retaliated with a punch and was called for unnecessary roughness, Hoffman wasn't. The Cowboys benefited from a 15-yard penalty in the ensuing penalty.

Hoffman, who was a bright spot for the Cowboys since taking over the right guard job following Zack Martin's season-ending injury, has looked the part of an NFL starting lineman and will likely compete for the job in 2025.

However, there's no denying his style of play can get him in trouble. He's feisty and always looking for a way to annoy the defender. He brings a unique edge to the Cowboys offensive line but whichever coaching staff is in place for next year will have to balance that with keeping him disciplined enough on the football field to avoid penalties.

If we're being completely honest, the Commanders got the last laugh on this one in more than one way. Payne avoided the fine, they won the game in Week 18, and are playing in the playoffs this weekend while Dallas watches from home.
