The Denver Broncos have made an interesting personnel decision for their wild-card round playoff game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

When the Broncos released their list of inactive players for the game, rookie RB Audric Estime was made inactive for the first time since Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season. Replacing Estime is former 2022 sixth-round draft pick out of Missouri, Tyler Badie, who has been on injured reserve since Week 5 with a back injury. He was activated to the 53-man roster to join Jaleel McLaughlin and Javontae Williams to form the team's backfield for Sunday.

According to CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, Sean Payton says that Badie will be a big part of the Broncos' game plan on Sunday.

Badie has appeared in just four games for the Broncos this season, including the team's Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that game, he carried the ball nine times for 70 rushing yards, leading all Denver running backs. His performance earned him a promotion from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, but the following week, he suffered an injury that would derail what had been a promising start to the year.

Badie and Estime have completely different running styles. Denver's decision to go with Badie suggests that Payton is opting for speed and the potential for big plays over some thundering, tackling-breaking bursts of Estime. We'll see if the decision pays off for the Broncos in a game where the odds are stacked against them.
