The Pittsburgh Steelers need to rip the bandaid off when it comes to the QB position.

Done should be the days of retreads and swinging at middle-of-the-road starters and backups in the draft.

If the team wants to actually get dynamic and explosive, they need a signal caller capable of doing as much.

There's a QB in Arizona who fits that description perfectly.

Kyler Murray a trade candidate for Pittsburgh?

Murray has been tied to the Steelers as of late, with Pittsburgh serving as the betting favorite to acquire Murray this offseason. Why you may ask? Well the current regime in Arizona has no loyalty to Murray, who signed his contract when Kliff Kingsbury and Steve Keim were still in charge.

And after back to back seasons of missing the playoffs, Arizona could be in a spot where trading Murray makes sense given the fact that $36.8 million of his 2026 salary becomes guaranteed if he's on the roster come March 22nd.

We know that Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have become more fascinated with QB mobility as of late, acquiring Justin Fields and Russell Wilson after late career Ben Roethlisberger, Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky.

"Quarterback mobility is an issue regarding the run game as well," said Coach Tomlin ahead of last year's matchup with the Cardinals. "You look at the tape you see quarterback mobility showing up, particularly in situational moments. Possession downs, red zone. It doesn't appear that you know Kyler (Murray) coming back from injury has slowed any of that down. I think he had a design quarterback run for a touchdown just the other day. And so, that has our attention obviously."

Murray is a 2x Pro Bowler, former rookie of the year, and is just 27 years old. He has had some maturity questions throughout his career, but that has never dissuaded the Steelers in the past, and he's one of the league's most talented players at the position.

Justin Fields has made it clear that he wants to return to Pittsburgh but the team decided to bench him despite a 4-2 start. That tells you what they think of him. Beyond Fields, there is Russell Wilson of course. But after five straight losses to close out his inaugural campaign in Pittsburgh, he has no certainty in his future either

So why keep playing the short game and not take a shot at the next decade-plus?

It can't hurt at this point.
