It took nearly six weeks for Marshon Lattimore to make his debut with the Washington Commanders and so far, his time in burgundy and gold has lasted about seven quarters.
Lattimore left Washington's Week 16 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the third quarter and never returned. He injured his hamstring, which is what kept him out of action for so long after the trade. He then missed Sunday night's overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons and his status for the season finale against the Dallas Cowboys is officially in question, as he didn't "practice" during Wednesday's walkthrough.
"With Marshon, he will be one of the guys that will be doing some rehab on the side today, working some speed work, because the team is going out of jog through into today. So that's where we're at with him," Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters Wednesday.
At this point, the Commanders need to go ahead and rest Lattimore for the playoffs. Sure, as Quinn has already pointed out, holding on to the NFC's No. 6 seed is valuable because it gives Washington a shot at hosting a playoff game and the team could also stand to sharpen up in some areas. However, when looking at the above laundry list of injuries (yes, it's only Wednesday and several of them are rest days for some guys), the Commanders can't risk Lattimore re-aggravating the injury or any situation like that. Especially since they'll probably be playing the Los Angeles Rams, who have a healthy Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Puka Nacua on hand, in the Wild Card round.
There's also the fact the Cowboys are without CeeDee Lamb and have Cooper Rush at quarterback. It's not like they'll need their No. 1 corner matching up with one of the premier wideouts in the game.
The Commanders played it slow and were diligent with Lattimore's initial injury, so there's no reason to rush this one until it matters, which isn't this week.
