The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have a couple of players participating in the Pro Bowl Games on February 2, 2025. The team announced on Thursday morning that LT Tristan Wirfs and DT Vita Vea have been named starters.
Vea has quietly been in the midst of a solid season. He has totaled 10 tackles for loss and 6 sacks in all 16 games this season.
Wirfs has been his usual productive self on the left side. He's allowed just one quarterback hit, no sacks, and 11 total pressures in 597 pass blocking snaps this season, earning a pristine 93.2 pass blocking grade per Pro Football Focus. According to the Bucs, Wirfs' fourth Pro Bowl selection sets a franchise record among Bucs offensive linemen, surpassing Tony Mayberry.
Tampa Bay also had a handful of alternates in Baker Mayfield, Chase McLaughlin, Lavonte David, and Mike Evans, with Mayfield and McLaughlin being first alternates. Mayfield being named as an alternate seems like a snub, as he has had a very strong season statistically. Mayfield is second in the NFL in completion percentage, touchdown percentage, and passing touchdowns, third in passing yardage, and seventh in yards per attempt.
The NFC quarterbacks are Sam Darnold, Jared Goff, and Jayden Daniels, all on teams locked in for the playoffs. As such, in the event the Bucs don't qualify for the Super Bowl and one of the others do, Mayfield should find himself in Orlando for the second straight time.
However, Bucs fans are hoping he's busy getting ready for a bigger game the following week instead.
