The San Francisco 49ers are in a substantially better place to deal with the financial impact of Brock Purdy's potential contract extension than many believe.
With the 49ers projected, per Over The Cap, to have $63.5 million in cap space for 2025, they don't necessarily need to make room for Purdy's contract by moving on from key veterans.
But it's still a possibility that they do so to buy even more room for manuever, and Deebo Samuel has long since been touted as a potential cap casualty after the Niners took calls on trades for him during last year's draft.
If Samuel is being considered as somebody from whom the 49ers may move on, then there is the possibility he has played his last game for the team after the wide receiver again missed practice on Thursday ahead of Sunday's season finale against the Arizona Cardinals with rib and wrist injuries.
Samuel was one of 10 non-participants for the Niners, a list that once again included defensive end Nick Bosa (knee), who was named to the Pro Bowl Games on Thursday.
Pro Bowl alternates Leonard Floyd and Deommodore Lenoir also sat out with shoulder injuries for a second successive day, while safety Ji'Ayir Brown did not practice because of an ankle injury after practicing in a limited capacity on Wednesday.
Brown therefore appears to be trending toward missing out, but there was better news surrounding George Kittle (ankle, hamstring), another of the 49ers' 2024 Pro Bowlers who returned to practice after officially being listed as DNP on Wednesday. Kittle was seen at practice on Wednesday in the section open to media.
Rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall (illness/chest) was once again limited following his breakout showing against the Detroit Lions on Monday.
Both Kittle and Pearsall playing would be a huge boost to quarterback Joshua Dobbs, starting in place of the injured Brock Purdy. However, it's increasingly likely Dobbs will be without starting right tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) after he missed a second straight practice.
