Good luck finding a more physically imposing offensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class than Mechanicsburg (Pa.) Cumberland Valley standout Tyler Merrill. The Pennsylvania native has been high on the Notre Dame board for some time now, and Merrill has become a massive (literally) priority for the program.
Merrill is no stranger to South Bend, having made multiple trips to campus in the past. The 6-5, 310-pound mauler will be heading back once again on January 25th for Junior Day. The Fighting Irish staff is set to host a list of talented 2026 targets, and Merrill is very high up in the group of priorities.
Notre Dame already holds commitments from Ben Nichols and Sullivan Garvin in the class, both of whom project best inside on the next level. The Irish now need to close on a couple of offensive tackles, and Merrill could potentially project well outside. If not, he would be absolutely dominant inside at guard as well.
The standout offensive lineman is very well regarded from a recruiting ranking perspective. Merrill currently sits as the No. 87 overall player and No. 7 interior offensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class on the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also ranked similarly on the On3 Industry ranking, coming in at No. 81 overall in the class.
Notre Dame is battling a long list of impressive programs for Merrill. Some of his top offers include Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Clemson, Penn State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Nebraska, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, Boston College, Rutgers and Duke among others.
