The biggest game of the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs is an epic rematch between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills, this time being played at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo. For the Bills, it poses an opportunity to get redemption for their worst performance of the year.
Quarterback Josh Allen knows it, and talked about how the team has grown since their last outing. Bills Mafia will be hoping for a far different outcome than when these two teams met previously.
In order to do so, there are some crucial questions that the Bills will have to answer. I spoke with Ravens expert Rob Gregson and asked him the three biggest questions facing Buffalo this weekend.
The last time the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens met, it didn’t go well for Buffalo. They got ran out of the building by Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson. What has made their ground attack so special this season, and how have opposing defenses found any sort of success against them?
This is a great question because on paper, the Ravens offensive line isn’t very good outside of the center and LT position. And while they may have out performed expectations, the reality is that the duo of Jackson and Henry has forced defenses into uncomfortable alignments, yet they still tend to break the dam.
The Baltimore pass catchers aren’t particularly an elite group, which is something they and the Bills have in common. Is there any particular key to taking away Lamar’s options through the air?
Slowing down Lamar through the air starts and ends with stopping Mark Andrews. His favorite target is having a resurgence after an injury riddled 2023, and he is arguably the best red zone TE in the sport. He has to be priority number one for the Bills defense.
The Baltimore defense has come on strong over the second half of the season. What adjustments did they make that has them playing like one of the league’s best after being gashed through the air early in the year?
Ever since the team moved Kyle Hamilton back to safety and kicked Marlon Humphrey inside to the nickel it has done wonders for them. They are playing with sound communication which has allowed them to be more multiple in their scheme and more aggressive in their ability to take away the football.
