The New England Patriots have started the search for their new offensive coordinator.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Patriots spent Tuesday interviewed Chicago Bears interim coach and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown for their open offensive coordinator job.

This is the first reported offensive coordinator interview for New England. He also interviewed with the Patriots last year for this opening.

Brown was named the Chicago Bears interim head coach this season after the team fired Matt Eberflus following a 4-8 start. However, with Brown, they were only able to get one additional win, finishing with a 5-12 record.

He worked with fellow rookie Caleb Williams, so he knows what it's like to help develop quarterback.

Brown has a lot of experience in the NFL, breaking in with the Las Angeles Rams as their running backs coach in 2020. He remained with the Rams until 2022, also serving as the team's assistant head coach. In 2023, he was hired as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator, but was not retained for the 2024 season. And that's when he made his move to Chicago.

Brown rose through the ranks with the Bears quickly, starting as the passing game coordinator, before becoming the interim offensive coordinator, and then eventually the interim head coach.

This news comes after the offensive coaching staff lost numerous people on Thursday. ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that tight ends coach Bob Bicknell, running backs coach Taylor Embree, wide receivers coach Tyler Hughes, coaching assistant Keith Jones, and assistant wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood would be moving on.

This is the Patriots' first of what is expected to be many interviews for the open coordinator position.
