Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton did not travel for the team's Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Four days before that decision was made, per the Cincinnati Enquirer, an assault involving Burton was reported to the police.

The assault was reported to police on December 30, a full day after Burton and the Bengals defeated the Denver Broncos. No charges were filed against Burton, but a recording of a 911 call was released Wednesday.

The alleged victim is a 19-year old woman who claims Burton assaulted her and threatened to commit suicide.

"The two had been out together and argued before the incident in the woman's Oakley neighborhood apartment, reports show. After the night out, police were called and the woman said Burton met her at her apartment, chased her inside, damaged her phone and assaulted her, including choking her. The caller said before leaving, Burton held a knife to his neck and threatened to kill himself." – The Enquirer's Sharon Coolidge, Cameron Knight, and Kelsey Conway

The 911 call, in which the alleged victim identified Burton, came in to police on the morning of the 30th.

"Jermaine Burton on the Bengals just broke into my house. He broke my phone," she said. "He wouldn't let me go inside. And he choked me (unintelligible) in the hallway. He blocked the door so I couldn't go inside, and when I did go inside, he chased me upstairs. He broke into my house. He broke my phone. This is the second time he's broken my phone in the past month."

The Bengals issued the following statement to the Enquirer regarding the report:

“We are aware of information related to Jermaine Burton. We will continue to evaluate as we gather additional details and will have no further comment at this time.”

Burton took to instagram over the weekend to proclaim his innocence, posting a photo captioned, "*lies* stop hitting my phone."

Burton, 23, was selected by the Bengals with the 80th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played in 14 games as a rookie, finishing with four receptions for 107 yards. He's also facing a civil suit from his apartment complex after an apparent eviction.
