Everything remains in front of the Buckeyes in terms of their biggest goal, to win a National Championship. Since that loss to the Wolverines, the Buckeyes have steamrolled through Tennessee and Oregon.
Now, playing Texas in the Cotton Bowl stands between the Buckeyes and the big game. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has had his team bounce back in an impressive way since the loss to a not-so-good Michigan team. However, one ESPN analyst believes the pressure is on Day to finish here.
“I still think Ryan Day has some pressure,” Finebaum said recently. "Now, I agree with Heather completely … I don’t think the weight of the world is on his shoulders anymore, but he has the best team [left]. He has the most talented team. A lot of people have already given them the trophy so I do think there is pressure there. Sark is a very successful coach and a loss here really wouldn't hurt him [if they lost], but it would hurt the SEC."
Texas is coming off of an overtime win against Arizona State and has the roster to best match up with the Buckeyes talent-wise out of who is left. Quarterback Quinn Ewers spent a season in Columbus and his play is no stranger to Day and the staff for the Buckeyes.
If the Buckeyes can grab the win in Texas on Friday, Day will move to 69-10 as a head coach, all of course at Ohio State. One more win and he would add a title to his resume, which only two active FBS head coaches have one.
Ohio State’s recent run has added pressure on the Buckeyes to finish here just because of how they looked on the field. The Buckeyes dropped 500 yards of offense on the Oregon defense and the Ducks never had a chance.
Friday’s game could be the biggest test left for the Buckeyes, we will see how Day’s team responds.
