Trey Amos career statistics

Pros:

  • Size profile
At over 6-0 and right around 200 pounds, Amos has the prototype size for a starting outside cornerback on the next level. Amos has tremendous length that pops immediately on film. That allows him to excel at disrupting the catch point.
  • Zone instincts
Amos does his best work with his eyes back toward the line of scrimmage. He does a tremendous job of reading route concepts in front of him, and disrupting. His instincts are some of the best in this class.
  • Competitiveness
Whether it is at the line of scrimmage or catch point, Amos is always going to compete. He plays with outstanding effort, which allows him to make plays in multiple capacities. Amos is very dependable in that regard.

Cons:

  • Hip tightness
While Amos has good long speed to match opposing wide receivers, his transitions are very clunky and automatically put him into recovery mode. Amos can give some instant separation with his below average change of direction skills. That hip tightness will surrender a lot of short throws.
  • Scheme dependence
Heavy man teams will just not be overly fond of Amos. In order for him to be the best version of himself, he will need to stick in a heavy zone scheme. Finding the right fit will be essential.
  • Spotty ball skills
Three of Amos’ four career interceptions came in 2024. He makes some solid plays on the ball at times, but it is very inconsistent. His ball skills are very up and down, and Amos has a tendency to be late to attack the football in the air.

Player Evaluation:

It is a deep and talented cornerback for the 2025 NFL Draft, and Amos is amongst the biggest risers. Coming into the season, he was an afterthought after spending the 2023 season with Alabama. Due to his consistent play, and production, that has changed in a big way.

From a fit perspective, Amos is not going to be for everyone. His combination of size, solid long speed, and competitiveness should translate well to a zone scheme. Heavy man systems will be a different story, with clear limitations there from a short area perspective. Amos will need to find the right spot that accentuates strengths, and limits the weaknesses.

Player Comparison:

Coby Bryant (Seattle Seahawks)

Lacking the change of direction skills, Amos is a very scheme specific cornerback who does his best work in zone coverage. Amos has enough long speed to stay attached down the field, but playing from off coverage will be his undoing.
