The Tennessee Vols are still catching strays after their 25 point loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the College Football Playoff last month.

After watching Ohio State dominate the Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals of the playoff, it's obvious that the Buckeyes are a juggernaut at the moment. Tennessee's 25 point loss to Ohio State says more about the Buckeyes than it does the Vols.

But that isn't stopping opposing coaches from throwing some shade at the Volunteers.

An anonymous Big 10 coach made a quip to The Athletic recently about Tennessee and the frigid cold temperatures that they experienced in Columbus against Ohio State.

“They (OSU) looked like they came out to beat the crap out of Tennessee, and Tennessee looked like they wanted to get the hell out of the cold,” said a Big Ten defensive backs coach to The Athletic. “That was Ohio State remembering they have more weapons than everybody else and cutting their guys loose."

There's no doubt it was cold in Columbus during the Vols' loss to the Buckeyes (subfreezing temps), but I'm not sure the cold weather had anything to do with Ohio State's dominant win. The Vols looked well prepared for the cold weather and quarterback Nico Iamaleava, a Southern California native, looked like one of the toughest players on the field despite taking numerous hard hits from Buckeyes defenders (Nico's helmet was cracked at one point during the game).

Anonymous coaches aren't the only ones still throwing some shade at the Vols.

Fox Sports announcers Gus Johnson and Jimmy Jackson took a shot at Tennessee during the Michigan State vs Ohio State basketball game on Friday, suggesting that Tennessee was "ready to get on the bus" because of the cold weather in Columbus.

If it was 75 degrees during Tennessee's game against Ohio State, the result likely would've been the same. The Buckeyes simply look unstoppable right now. The narrative that the cold weather had anything to do with Tennessee's loss is nothing more than low hanging fruit for folks who enjoy throwing shade at the SEC.
