The New York Jets finished their season, and perhaps Aaron Rodgers’ career on a high note. After an abysmal year, the New York Jets defeated the Miami Dolphins by a final of 32-20.

It was decent send off for Aaron Rodgers, who may have played his last game in the NFL, but has almost definitely played his last game for the Jets. It was an inauspicious beginning for Rodgers as his first pass of the game got intercepted on a deflection after he attempted to force the ball to Davante Adams.

That wasn’t even the worst play of the day for the Jets, who tried to get cute on the next possession only to come up with entry in the Not-Top-10 of the week.

Rodgers finally got his 500th career touchdown pass in the second quarter when he found Tyler Conklin from five yards out.

He got number 501 later in the second quarter when he hit Allen Lazard for a 13-yard score.

Rodgers heard some boos in the second half when he made it abundantly clear that he was trying to hit Davante Adams for a touchdown. He threw to Adams on four straight pass plays in the red zone to the point where it didn’t matter who was open and who was on the field. Even the TV commentators remarked how they were trying to hook-up for one last touchdown together. Honestly, if I was Garrett Wilson, I wouldn’t want Rodgers back either with the way he was ignored.

Finally in the fourth quarter, Rodgers was able to force one to Adams from about four yards out. It was Rodgers’ 502nd career touchdown pass and his 82nd to Adams. Rodgers would end the day with four touchdown passes, his first four touchdown game with the Jets.

Perhaps most fitting, after the game, Rodgers walked off the field with Davante Adams in what could be their last game together.

With the win, the Jets finish the season 5-12 and will pick 7th in April’s draft. If they had lost the game, they would have picked fifth.  There will be plenty of time to analyze and dissect what the win might have cost the team come draft time.  But for now, the players enjoyed a rare victory as so much of the organization will be in flux in the coming weeks and months.

The Jets didn’t get a chance to play spoilers for the Dolphins or hero for the Cincinnati Bengals because the Denver Broncos beat up on the Kansas City Chiefs’ B-team by a final of 38-0. Had the Chiefs won, and the Jets beat the Dolphins, the Bengals would have made the playoffs. The Broncos with the win took the final spot in the playoffs.
