The Detroit Lions went out and took care of business on their own field on Sunday night and clinched the first seed in the NFC and their second straight NFC North title. It was quite the performance. Here are our five winners and three losers from the game:
Winners
Jahmyr Gibbs
What a night for Gibbs in this one. He put up 170 total yards and four touchdowns in this game. Not only did he tie Barry Sanders' franchise record for most touchdowns in a game, he set a new franchise record for most touchdowns in a season. Just an unreal night for him.
Aaron Glenn
After the Lions' defense looked a bit shaky against the 49ers in Week 17, there was concern that they would have a bad night against the Vikings. That did not happen at all. Glenn coached one of his best games ever and the Vikings went 0-4 in the red zone and never put a touchdown on the board.
Amik Robertson
Covering Justin Jefferson is one of the hardest things a cornerback can do in this league, but Robertson stuck to him like glue all night long and held him to just three catches for 54 yards on nine targets.
Jameson Williams
Imagine what Williams would have done if he had not had the two-game suspension in the middle of the season. Despite that, he still blossomed even more as the year went on and now had his first 1,000-yard season.
Alex Anzalone
So much for that snap count that some were reporting. Anzalone played 64 snaps in this game and it looked like he didn't skip a beat. He played this game as well as he would have if he played last week. An outstanding game for him.
Losers
Taylor Decker
It's hard to say that anyone had a bad night on Sunday night, but Decker did have a bad first half in which he allowed three of the Lions' four pressures and a sack on Goff. He got put in a bit of a spin cycle by Jonathan Greenard. He had a much better second half though.
The word "Depleted"
This is the word that's been most synonymous with the Lions' defense as of late and you heard it a bunch last night from the NBC commentary team. All anyone wants to talk about with this Lions team is these injuries and they continue to look bad when the defense just shrugs that off and outperforms all the expectations. Maybe just stop calling the defense depleted.
This guy
How the 2024 Lions offense measure up to preseason stat projections, did Jameson Williams beat his projection?
Last season we put out stat projections for players on the Lions' offense. The big claim to fame for us was that we absolutely nailed Amon-Ra St. Brown's projection. We predicted ahead of the season that St. Brown would have 115 receptions for 1,516 yards and 10 touchdowns. He wound up with 119 receptions, 1,516 […]
