The Las Vegas Raiders need to get their head coach as soon as possible. The sooner the better, because then you can start planning for everything that's next, like the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator hires. Oh yeah, the general manager hire, too.
Then, you can really prep for free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft, getting the players you want and need for your schemes, culture, and identity. But, it won't happen overnight, especially when a lot of the best candidates are still in the postseason.
And, it feels like the guy they are going after is one of the guys that could be in the playoffs for a long time. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is currently the favorite.
And, the Raiders seem to be staying away from what would be a fan-favorite head coach.
Raiders not interested in Deion Sanders
Deion Sanders, primetime, one of the best two-way athletes of all time, who also played two sports professionally, has made it known that he wants to be the head coach for the Raiders. This was a rumor months ago, but at the time, Antonio Pierce's status was in the air.
Now, as the Raiders look for a new head coach, names will start to pop up left and right. Sanders has been one of the names to pop up, but the Raiders are staying away.
According to The Athletic's Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur, the Raiders are not interested in pairing with Sanders. But, that doesn't mean they aren't interested in his son, Sheduer Sanders, the top quarterback prospect in this draft.
Only time will tell what will happen. But, with openings by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys, the Raiders have to go all in on their guy if they truly want him.
