The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' front office is one of the best and most underrated FOs in the NFL. Jason Licht is one of the best general managers that a lot of people don't mention when talking about the cream of the crop and that's fine – it's good to be under the radar, a lot of times.
While Licht is excellent in his own right, a good chunk of his success comes from the people around him. And while Licht and Co. are underrated, a few of his core coworkers may get plucked by other teams this offseason.
One of those people, in particular, is assistant general manager John Spytek. He's been with the Bucs since 2016 and per the team's website, "works closely with Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht regarding the NFL Draft, key free-agent acquisitions and all other personnel decisions. Spytek oversees the day-to-day operations of the college and pro scouting departments for Tampa Bay. He is responsible for administering free agency preparation and evaluating talent throughout the NFL and other professional football leagues".
Spytek has been involved in numerous, key decisions over the years. Going all the way back to the trade for Jason Pierre-Paul in 2018 up to the re-signings of Baker Mayfield and Antoine Winfield Jr., last year. He's been a major factor in the Bucs' draft classes throughout the years, as well.
All of the success has firmly planted Spytek on the radar of other teams and he's gotten several interviews over the last couple of years, but has yet to land a GM job.
That's all probably going to change in 2025, however, and the Bucs need to get ready to say goodbye to one of their most important employees.
That's because Spytek is not only a finalist for the Tennessee Titans GM position, he's also landed an interview with the Las Vegas Raiders, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. There's a ton of smoke around Las Vegas, and for good reason, because Tom Brady obviously played for the Bucs, but the two were teammates back at Michigan. Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders and is going to play a big role in the team's next moves at head coach and GM.
It's pretty clear Spytek is going to get the promotion he deserves this year. How the Bucs fill his eventual void will be interesting, but if there's anyone who can figure it out, it's Licht.
