NASHVILLE — The Kansas City Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl for the third straight year and the fifth time in the last six seasons. Seeing quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Company represent the AFC yet again should make the Tennessee Titans upcoming decision obvious with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

No matter what you do, you're not going to get a better quarterback than Kansas City has.

Titans aren't catching the Chiefs with Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders

If Tennessee is absolutely in love with either Miami passer Cam Ward or Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, then you'd be hard pressed to make a compelling argument for trading back or drafting a different position at the top slot.

General manager Mike Borgonzi and coach Brian Callahan began their first foray into working together this weekend taking in the sights and sounds of Sanders and others at the East-West Shrine Bowl. They have promised to turn over every rock in search of a quarterback solution after incumbent Will Levis spent the better part of his sophomore season playing his way out of a job. They'll sign a veteran no matter what.

Levis is the only quarterback under contract, after all.

Drafting Ward or Sanders at 1.01, however, feels like such a flawed endeavor. The Titans roster has been nightmarish across the board for three straight seasons and enters 2025 still in major disrepair. Pass rush, offensive line help, and an influx of youthful skill players is needed before any quarterback can survive playing for this franchise.

Trading out of No. 1 overall should be the priority to add to the eight total picks Borgonzi has at his disposal.

If one of the two top passer prospects can be had with a later pick, then fine. The AFC is completely stacked with elite quarterbacks, however, and only one of them has been able to get by Mahomes in the postseason. Fortifying the roster in as many areas as possible before pushing the chips in on a player that can legitimately push the likes of Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow is the best path for Tennessee.

Abdul Carter, come on down.
