The Chicago Bears' head coaching search has been a long winded process over the last few weeks with the team interviewing over 15 different candidates, both in-person at Halas Hall and virtually.

The Bears are expected to start narrowing down the list and schedule second interviews soon with candidates that impressed during the first meeting.

After the results of the first slate of Divisional Round playoff games, that process can begin quicker than many anticipated.

The Detroit Lions' loss to the Washington Commanders on Saturday was a surprise to many around the league, and the teams with vacant head coach openings get to reap the rewards of the Lions' loss.

Each of the Lions' top two coordinators, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, are top coaching candidates and are now free to interview in-person for any opening starting on Monday following the team's loss.

Both Johnson and Glenn already interviewed virtually for the Bears' opening with Johnson considered a strong favorite to land in Chicago.

However, the Bears process might be held up just a little bit longer compared to the other teams with current head coach openings.

The Bears have strong interest in Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, who will be leading the team in the National Championship Game on Monday. The Bears also requested to interview Commanders' offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who won't be able to interview until the Commanders lose or win it all. And it's still uncertain whether or not either candidate will even take an interview with the Bears.

As for the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders, things are going to start moving quickly starting on Monday now that Johnson and Glenn are available to have second interviews.

If the Bears want to land either candidate from Detroit, they'll have to move quick as well to avoid getting left in the dust and having one of their potential top options land with another team.

The results of tomorrow's Baltimore Ravens vs Buffalo Bills game will also have major implications in the Bears' search. The Bears held first interviews this week with Ravens' OC Todd Monken and Bills' OC Joe Brady. The candidate on the losing team on Sunday will be available for a second interview starting this week, saying the Bears decide to bring either coach in for another interview.

We will provide updates for each interview that the Bears schedule in the coming days on the tracker linked below.
