At 35-years old, it's no secret that Travis Kelce is nearing the end of his playing career.
But, regardless of age, Kelce proved that he still has it in him during the Chiefs' first playoff game of the 2024-25 season.
And on Monday, Andy Reid revealed how Kelce maintains this playoff success year in and year out.
"I’m happy for him (Travis Kelce) with the seven catches and all that, but I think more of it is just we have a variety of guys around him. I mean, he’s – the opportunities that he’s had he’s done well with, and I don’t think it’s his play that has been reduced," Reid explained. "When everybody asks about age – by age or physical ability or anything, I just think that you have a variety of guys that we’ve been able to use around him and when we didn’t, teams were ganging up on him.
"It’s a good problem now because guys are healthy, and we have choices out there and they can’t really just focus on him.”
Kelce always manages to be open at the perfect time. Just look at his touchdown on Saturday. Patrick Mahomes got a throw off while falling to the ground, and it floated perfectly into the hands of Kelce who was wide open in the end zone.
The tight end delivers in key moments. But it's not always about what he does on the field. His contributions off help the team just as much.
“It’s not only his (Travis Kelce) energy, it’s a positive – it’s that positive mindset that you can do anything and I think he does a great job with that and being able to show it to the guys that – listen, (when) we come together the right way, anything’s possible," Reid said. "That’s the thing I appreciate (about) him the most.
"I also appreciate that, at his age, he goes out there every day and practices hard and that just – and if you try to take him out, he gets mad at you. I think that’s – I’d say that’s a special thing for an older player.”
The Chiefs are looking to do something no other team in NFL history has done before: three-peat. They will need all of this from Kelce to do so, and so far, he's living up that and more.
