Austin doesn’t get much snow, so when it happens, it’s worth getting out your cameras.

Residents woke up Tuesday to a winter wonderland all across the Central Texas region with snow covering everything, including Royal-Memorial Stadium.

Texas officials dispatched their photographers and released the drone to get overhead shots of the stadium and field on a day when the university itself was closed for inclement weather.

The shots were every bit as breathtaking as they are rare.

Most schools around Austin were closed Tuesday as temperatures hovered in the low 30s. The sun was expected to peek through the clouds late in the day, and temperatures were expected to get into the 40s on Wednesday.

Even with the light dusting, Texas men’s basketball is expected to play its scheduled SEC game against Missouri at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The poor weather did not impact Missouri’s travel, a team spokesman said.

To help boost attendance, school officials announced that any UT student can get access to Moody Center on Tuesday, not just those with a "Big Ticket" student athletic pass.

The cold weather makes for a chance for the Texas baseball and softball teams to go indoors. Both teams can begin playing games in early February.

Not to be outdone, Texas A&M officials had the same idea with snow covering everything in College Station. The Aggies don't get to see snow that often at Kyle Field, either.

The entire city of Houston was shut down as officials expected snow. That city does not have snow plows, and city officials planned on waiting for temperatures to rise and let Mother Nature clear the streets.
