The Pittsburgh Steelers are once again in limbo.
With only one QB signed for the upcoming season, tons of theories and reports are floating around regarding who will be the starting signal caller come September.
Well, the man who held that role for the team in 2024 just dropped a huge piece of info on behalf of that question…
Russell Wilson admits contract talks have started in Pittsburgh
"Yes, we have started to talk a little bit, obviously, and we had our meetings and everything else," Wilson said when asked if talks of a future contract have started with the Steelers on Wednesday's Pat McAfee Show. "We're just getting into it."
“Going into Pittsburgh was a special place for me. I love it, and hopefully I can play there a lot longer," added Wilson. "It’s a special place because of the guys in the locker room and the traditions and the people and the winning, plus you got Mike Tomlin who’s arguably the best coach of all time, one of the top ones. I got so much more in me, man. I’m excited, obviously, my goal is to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers a long time and hopefully finish my career there.”
It was an important nugget from Russ, especially with reports of the Steelers favoring Justin Fields as their starter in 2025, along with the quotes from Mike Tomlin about Fields as his signal caller.
"I thought that the way that he managed his professional circumstances was really impressive," said Tomlin when asked if Fields could be a 17 game starter and have pole position heading into 2025. "I thought he brought an urgency to his day-to-day work, regardless of his role. I thought he got continually better within our system of ball. Throughout the process, I thought the way he conducted himself, makes that a legitimate thought or idea at this juncture."
So it's very early in the offseason, and all options including a Kenny Pickett 2.0 kind of move are seemingly on the table, but Russell Wilson isn't taking his name of the hat.
