As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the New Orleans Saints continue to prep for it, as well as the other pieces of their offseason.

Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore is the expected next head coach for the Saints, so we will see how he wants to attack the early rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft. He could be announced as the new HC as early as Sunday night, if the team does follow through with their most likely outcome.

A recent mock draft made a selection for the Saints in round one that many haven't seen as often.

Saints pick running back in top ten

9. New Orleans Saints: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

I understand the logic of this pick here. Alvin Kamara isn't getting any younger, and Jeanty is probably the best overall prospect left on the board.

That being said, the massive amount of needs along the Saints' roster should probably push them in a different direction.

The idea of Kamara and Jeanty in a Kellen Moore offense is intriguing, but a pick along the offensive or defensive line or a top tight end/wide receiver pick here.

In this scenario, the board did not fall particularly well for an edge rusher or cornerback to land in New Orleans, and the best interior defensive lineman is gone in Mason Graham as well. That's not ideal.

Regardless, I think Jeanty is a bit of a luxury selection for New Orleans, and their aging roster/minimal depth cannot afford that in round one of this year's draft.
